With so many wineries in Napa and Sonoma County it is
difficult to decide which ones are worth your visit and which ones you can let
slip under the rug. Being a wine enthusiast myself I come across this question
quite often, but with different circumstances. To me, I would love to visit
every winery; it is just a matter of which to visit first. One of the defining
factors I evaluate is the unique characteristics of each winery. Garnet Vineyards is one
of the unique few that has control over every aspect of their winemaking. From planting
their vineyards to the bottling process, they do it all. Garnet owns four
vineyards in the Sonoma area, three of which are located in the Carneros AVA
while the other is located in the Sonoma Coast AVA. The Sonoma coast vineyard
sits between Sonoma and Petaluma and is exposed with both wind and fog from the
Pacific Ocean. The three vineyards in the Carneros AVA have different slope
levels, different terrace structures and a different soil, giving each grape a
different taste. Due to the different climates and growing atmosphere of each
vineyard, Garnet has plenty of varietals to work with. It is the cool climate,
wind and fog which sets their wine apart from many others and categories their
Pinot Noir as one of the best. I highly recommend you place Garnet Vineyards at
the top of your wine bucket list. It will be an experience you will not forget.
